• Green Living Spaces, RHS Malvern Spring Festival 2019

  • Gaby’s debut show garden saw her create a Balaeric inspired garden for The Green Living Spaces category at RHS Malvern Spring Festival.

The garden celebrated Mediterranean lifestyle, endorsing quality time spent at home with friends and family, while also encouraging new-homeowners with little outdoor space to embrace their garden.

  • Being a small living space, striking, evergreen statement plants would create structure behind the seasonal flowers and soft grasses.

A 4 meter striped Trachycarpus fortunei dressed in its impressive yellow flowers and an outstanding stripey trunk was key to this space and the gardens success. An usual Yucca created a gnarled framework, which was softened by the loose heads of Euphorbia ‘Black Pearl’ and soft Stipa tenuissima.

  • The colours in the peeled trunk of the Trachycarpus – deep maroon, burnt orange and vibrant yellow – became the colour palette for the perennial planting. Iris germanica ‘Dutch Chocolate’, ‘Carnival Time’ and ‘Quechee’ complemented the colours of the tree.

Decorative heads of Euphorbia ‘Black Pearl’ nodded beneath strong spires of Echium ‘Purple Fountain’, texture appearing in the form of Festuca ‘Elijah Blue’ and Stipa tenuissima.

For a small garden space evergreen structure is fundamental. A year-round framework was created with specimens from Architectural Plants, which was softened by pops of seasonal colour and ornamental grasses.
