• Theatre Stage, RHS Malvern Autumn Show 2018

  • We always enjoy unusual and quirky projects.

    They become a brilliant opportunity to have fun, while pushing creative boundaries, experimenting and creating something unique. And this was one such project. We were asked to design the main theatre for the Malvern Autumn Show, the UK’s premier autumn show.

  • Our brief was to create a celebration of autumn; an amalgamation of everything great about the season.

    Using an autumnal composition of trees, shrubs, perennials and seasonal fruits and vegetables, we set about designing and creating a potager’s theatre to inspire and celebrate autumnal wonders.

  • For the first time, cooking and gardening were brought together on one stage.

    A fun challenge to effectively cater for both professions, enabling the chefs to have room to cook and the gardeners to have plenty of inspiration to use.

    Large, five-metre specimen trees oozing with autumnal colour were used as the backdrop, adding depth to the back of the stage. Large shrubs were brought in to bring the eye level down, and seasonal perennials drifted through to add a burst of colour.

  • The finishing touches make an installation come to life.

    Attention to detail is essential on such a project. We used a combination of dried hops, leaf litter, conkers, pumpkins, windfall apples, vegetables and freshly cut flowers to add to the autumnal ambience.

  • The stage was used throughout the show for a whole range of talks and cooking demonstrations.

    From Giles Brandreth to Joe Swift, Carlol Klein, James Alexander Sinclair and Mark Diacono, the stage was a hive of autumnal celebration. It was great to see it all put to great use.

  • We are delighted to have once again worked with Hortus Loci, who sponsored the plants for the stage, and our friends at Keyscapes, who we worked very closely with to design and build the installation. We also worked with local orchards, greengrocers, farmers and florists. As with any project, installations rely upon collaborating with very best in the industry, and we are proud to work with local professionals at the top of their game.
