  • Jamie Butterworth

    Managing Director

    Throughout his career Jamie dreamed of running his own soft-landscaping company, with the sole purpose of bringing beautiful gardens, quality plants and superior service to the industry. In the autumn of 2018 this vision became reality and Butterworth Horticulture was born. His ethos of passion and horticultural expertise forms the mainstay of the business.

    As Managing Director Jamie wears several hats, which extend outside of the day-to-day runnings of the business. As well as heading up Butterworth Horticulture, Jamie is one of eight ambassadors for the worlds largest gardening charity, the RHS. He is also the gardening expert for BBC Radio London, as well as a contributor to Talk Radio and BBC Radio Berkshire. An author too, Jamie’s debut publication ’50 Plants You Can’t Kill’ hit top of the gardening category on Amazon.

  • Alan Williams

    General Manager

    After studying art and design at Worcester College of Technology, Alan had the opportunity to showcase his creativity as a florist before landing a job at an interiors and design firm.

    Seeking new ventures and a change of scene, Alan decided to try his hand at a landscaping company, enjoying the opportunities to work creatively outdoors. While working for Keyscape Design and Construction, Alan co-designed The Perfumers Garden at RHS Malvern Spring Show, which received a RHS Gold Medal and an award for Best in Show.

    As general manager Alan is a vital member of the team, helping to oversee the variety of exciting projects.

    Office Manager

    Assisting with all matters business and administration at Butterworth Horticulture, Claire helps to keep the company’s busy schedules moving smoothly. With valuable horticultural experience working at a well-known plant nursery, we even have staff at an office management level with an enthusiasm for plants!

  • Gabriella Pill

    Designer

    After graduating from university with a degree in English Literature, Gaby took a summer job at North Hill Nurseries and soon became enamoured by all things horticulture.

    Whilst working at the nursery, Gaby studied at KLC School of Design, achieving a diploma in Garden Design and receiving the London Stone Award for Construction. Within six months of graduating, she went on to design her debut show garden at RHS Malvern Spring Festival, winning a Silver Gilt medal.

    From finishing college Gaby leapt at the opportunity to become a Garden Designer at Butterworth Horticulture.

    “Working amongst like-minded garden-lovers at Butterworth Horticulture has enhanced my enthusiasm for plants. I enjoy creating considerate, unique, creative planting schemes.”

    Soft Landscaper

    After studying IT at college, Adam went on to spend nearly 20 years in the IT and Electronics industries. He spent time in roles such as an engineer, technician, even a team leader at an electronics company. Seeking a change of scene, Adam signed up for a short stint at his friend’s garden maintenance company. After spending a summer outside surrounded by beautiful views in interesting places, Adam discovered a love for all things horticulture. It offered Adam the chance to work creatively, something that he seeked in a career.

    “The support and opportunities available at Butterworth Horticulture has enabled me to learn, as well as apply my own experience to my role. I find the process of helping to transform a customers vision to their dream garden really rewarding”.

  • Sam Wakeford

    Soft Landscaper

    In 2007 Sam finished his studies in Arboriculture at Merrist Wood College, and for 14 years since he has worked in the horticulture industry.

    His career has seen him from a head of gardens in Kent, to a foreman on the other side of the planet at Assured tree services in Perth, Australia.

    Sam has always had a passion for plants and an interest in helping to maintain beautiful gardens, doing his part in caring for the environment.

  • Dario Pizzi

    Horticulturist

    Studying for five years at an Agricultural college with a year spent specialising in Horticulture, Dario worked in Switzerland as a plantsman and was soon promoted to manager of Horticulture. In 2016 he travelled to Australia and New Zealand, where during his travels he worked in various roles, such as senior horticulturist, horticulture manager and garden designer. Dario returned home to Italy to study a masters in Landscape Design.

    Dario brings expertise, passion and dedication to Butterworth Horticulture, heading up the team of Horticulturists in London and throughout the home counties.

  • Stacey Bright

    Horticulturist

    Stacey is a horticulturalist from Cape Town, South Africa, who’s interest in garden design and horticulture sparked from a young age when she became captivated by ecosystems and delicate interactions between plants and their environment.

    Stacey studied Horticulture in South Africa and became interested in kitchen gardens and creating edible landscapes, which she did alongside her studies. In May 2019 Stacey designed and created her first show garden, titled “Ikhaya”, for RHS Malvern Spring Festival. Her edible and South African inspired balcony garden was awarded a Silver Medal. After being involved in the UK horticulture and landscape industry, Stacey was inspired to pursue a career in horticulture abroad and relocated to England.

  • Jon Bray

    Tree Surgeon

    Jon studied Horticulture, and later Arboriculture and forestry at  Bicton College of Agriculture. As a NPTC qualified professional arborist, he worked in the urban and rural forestry environment across London and the South of England, leading small teams to carry out both commercial and domestic works.

    Jon’s resumé includes working on a private estate in Surrey carrying out horticultural duties and woodland management, as well as supervising a vineyard in Topsham, Devon.

    More recently, Jon studied a business diploma and became a programme manager for a range of Government environmental policies.

    Alongside working in central Government, Jon works at Butterworth Horticulture in order to continue working with the environment on a practical level, while creating new gardens and working with plants, enjoying the physical and technical demands of being a practicing arborist.

  • Bill Farrington

    Landscaper

    With over 8 years experience in the landscaping industry, Bill is one of Butterworth Horticulture’s most trusted hard-landscaping sub contractors.

    After studying an apprenticeship at Sparsholt college with Stephen Robertson at Out of the Wilderness, Bill started his own company to build gardens all over Surrey and Hampshire.

    “I enjoy my trade as no day is the same, and enables me to work creatively with a variety of materials, while working with and meeting some great people. Working for Butterworth Horticulture has allowed me to utilise my skills with a range of styles and materials, while helping to create beautiful spaces for clients to enjoy”.

    Dog

    Whether he’s motivating the team, riding shotgun in a van, snoozing under the shade of a tree, helping you with your lunch, or keeping your seat warm; you’re bound to see Hector roaming around somewhere by Jamie’s side.

    A more solitary work ethic to the rest of the team, Hector prefers the easy life sitting on the side lines rather than getting his paws dirty.
